Supreme Court won't take on Calif. compact dispute

printer friendly
The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday rejected a tribal challenge to gaming compacts in California.

A group of tribes accused former Gov. Gray Davis (D), who was recalled last October, of negotiating in bad faith. But the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, in a unanimous decision in June 2003, rejected the argument. Among Davis' tactics was to give tribes only two hours to agree to a compact.

The tribes later appealed. The case is Coyote Valley Band of Pomo Indians v. California, No. 03-804.
