Minnesota governor to discuss urban tribal casino

printer friendly
Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty (R) will meet with three tribes to discuss an urban casino that could help the state out of its budget crunch.

The meeting with the White Earth, Red Lake and Leech Lake Ojibwe bands was scheduled to take place this week. But scheduling conflicts forced a delay until January 66.

The tribes operate casinos on their reservations but the remote locations have not generated significant profits. They say a Twin Cities casino will provide a huge benefit for their impoverished communities.

Other tribes in the state oppose the idea. They say it will wreck their business.
