Kansas tribes withdraw state casino proposal

Two Kansas tribes abruptly withdrew their application for a commercial casino in Wyandotte County.

The Kickapoo Tribe and the Sac and Fox Nation proposed a $441 million casino in Kansas City. But an attorney said competition for the state-authorized casino was too stiff.

“We have real concerns about our ability to be competitive at the next level,” attorney Ryan Denk told The Kansas City Star.

The Mohegan Tribe of Connecticut is still in the bidding for a $770 million casino in the county. Wyandotte County’s Unified Board of Commissioners held hearings this week on the proposals.
