Sho-Bans question tribe's role in Las Vegas deal

printer friendly

Some members of the Shoshone-Bannock Tribes of Idaho are criticizing the tribe's involvement in a potential Las Vegas casino.

The tribe has apparently joined an effort to open the first Indian-run casino on the Vegas strip. The Muckleshoot Tribe of Washington wants to get other tribes involved for what Ellis Las Vegas calls a "tribal casino in Las Vegas with a Beverly hills theme."

But Sho-Ban member Patricia Patterson says the tribe doesn't belong in Vegas. She and other reservation residents want tribal leaders to focus on improving the local community.

"We need to solve the problems in our own backyard before we get involved with deals outside of Idaho," Patterson told KPVI-TV.
