Alabama-Coushatta Tribe seeks gaming support

printer friendly
The Alabama-Coushatta Tribe of Texas is asking local governments to support legislation that would restore gaming to the reservation.

The tribe operated a modest casino but it was shut down by the state. The federal courts ruled that the tribe agreed to ban on gaming, under state laws, in exchange for federal recognition.

A bill that was introduced last year would have changed state law to allow gaming in Indian Country. The tribe is trying to generate more support for the legislation.
