California committee rejects slot machine bill

printer friendly
The California Assembly Governmental Organization Committee rejected a bill that would have allowed tribes to operate more slot machines.

In 1999, 61 tribes signed compacts that allowed up to 2,000 slot machines. But a statewide cap imposed by the Gambling Control Commission prevents the tribes from reaching that limit.

Some tribes have since signed new agreements to operate more slot machines but they agreed to share more revenues and cede more control to the state. The remaining tribes have been told to renegotiate if they want more machines.
