Seminole Tribe asks court to reconsider compact

printer friendly
The Seminole Tribe has asked the Florida Supreme Court to rehear a lawsuit over the tribal-state Class III gaming compact.

In a July 3 decision, the court invalidated the compact. The justices said Gov. Charlie Crist (R) overstepped his authority by allowing the tribe to operate Class III games beyond slot machines.

The tribe wasn't a party to the suit and has said the compact remains valid because it was approved by the Bureau of Indian Affairs. But the tribe says the court should clarify that certain Class III games, like blackjack and baccarat, are legal.
