Graton Rancheria agrees to stick with one casino

printer friendly
The Federated Indians of Graton Rancheria, also known as the Coast Miwok Tribe, are nearing an agreement with two counties to limit future casinos.

The tribe received federal approval to open a casino in Rohnert Park in Sonoma County. The Bureau of Indian Affairs said it was bound to take land into trust for the tribe under a 2000 act of Congress.

The law referred to Sonoma County and Marin County so both counties are considering the agreement.

The tribe won federal recognition through the 2000 act, which saw no public debate prior to its passage.
