Arizona gaming revenues see 7.5 percent drop

printer friendly
Revenues at Arizona's 22 tribal casinos fell by 7.5 percent in the past three months, according to the the latest figures from the state Department of Gaming.

Tribes shared $26 million with the state in the quarter that ended June 30. That was down from $28.1 million from the same period in 2007.

"Gaming is like any other entertainment industry," Sheila Morago, the executive director of the Arizona Indian Gaming Association, told The Arizona Daily Star. "It relies solely on discretionary income, and people just have less and less of it."

The tribal-state compact sets revenue-sharing rates between 1 percent and 8 percent.
