Morongo Band goes back to basics with casino

printer friendly

After trying to lure a younger crowd to its casino, the Morongo Band of Mission Indians is focusing on its core customers.

The tribe debuted a $250 million expansion of the Morongo Casino Resort in late 2004. With flashy venues and pricey restaurants, the tribe tried to recreate the "hip" atmosphere of places like The Palms in Las Vegas.

The effort wasn't a complete failure but the trendy experiment has definitely ended. The tribe is now managing all of the restaurants and nightclubs directly and is targeting local and older gamblers with lower hotel room rates and more affordable food.
