No compact talks for Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe

printer friendly
A June news report of Class III gaming compact negotiations between the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe and the state of Massachusetts was apparently premature.

Gov. Deval Patrick (D) said on Monday that no talks have occurred and a tribal spokesperson confirmed the same. The two sides have met but only to discuss the tribe's land-into-trust application.

Patrick has previously said he is willing to negotiate a compact. He introduced a bill to legalize commercial gaming but it was defeated by lawmakers.
