Three California tribes share $65.1M with state

printer friendly
In just four months, three tribes have contributed $65.1 million in gaming revenues to the state of California.

The Pechanga Band of Luiseno Indians, the Morongo Band of Mission Indians and the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians signed new compacts and agreed to share revenues in exchange for operating more slot machines. Voters approved the deals in February and the tribes made their first payments to the state.

The Pechanga Band paid $30.8 million, the Morongo Band paid $20.8 million and the Agua Caliente Band paid $13.5 million. A fourth tribe, the Sycuan Band of Kumeyaay Indians, has not finalized the compact so it hasn't paid any money to the state.

A fifth tribe, the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians, also signed a new compact but that agreement wasn't up for a vote in February. The tribe has not disclosed the amount it has paid to the state.
