Oklahoma tribes welcome death of Class II rules

Oklahoma tribes are happy the National Indian Gaming Commission finally dumped its controversial Class II regulations.

Oklahoma is the biggest Class II market. If the rules went into effect, tribes would have lost revenues and jobs, according to an economy analysis released by the agency.

"This was a serious threat to the economy, not just for Indian country, but for Oklahoma as a whole," David Qualls, the chairman of the Oklahoma Indian Gaming Association, told The Oklahoman.

The rules would have changed the definition of Class II games like bingo and pull-tabs. Some games would end up being classified as Class III games like slot machines.
