Seneca Nation halts work at off-reservation casino

printer friendly

The Seneca Nation has halted all work at its off-reservation casino in Buffalo, New York.

The tribe spent $43 million towards a permanent Buffalo Creek Casino. The $333 million facility was set to open in 2010.

The tribe cited the national economy in stopping work on the casino but opponents are also pushing the federal government to shut down the site, where a temporary facility offers Class III gaming. The National Indian Gaming Commission issued a notice of violation to the tribe in September.
