Little River Band adds to potential casino site

printer friendly

The Little River Band of Ottawa Indians has purchased 223 acres for a potential casino in Muskegon, Michigan.

The tribe paid $5.5 million for an 87.1-acre former racetrack in July. Since then, the tribe has purchased 10 more parcels for a total of $13.5 million, The Muskegon Chronicle reports.

"The Little River Band of Ottawa Indians views the lands purchased in Muskegon as an investment in a city and region that will grow in the near future to assume its rightful role as the focal point of western Michigan. Whatever direction the development takes, our tribal leaders see the purchase as a commitment to our lands, our people and the future for all of us who call Western Michigan our home," the tribe said in a statement.

The tribe operates the Little River Casino in Manistee, about 80 miles from Muskegon.
