County seeks agreement for Navajo Nation casino

printer friendly
A New Mexico county is trying to negotiate with the Navajo Nation to address law enforcement at the tribe's first casino, The Gallup Independent reports.

The Fire Rock Casino near Gallup, New Mexico, opened two weeks ago to large crowds. The McKinley County Sheriff’s Department so far has responded to eight incidents at the facility.

The tribe wants an agreement to cover such services but has rejected the county's request to fund the cost of two deputies plus two police cruisers. The tribe is willing to pay for one deputy and one cruiser, according to the county.
