Soo Tribe's commercial casino sees drop in revenue

printer friendly
The commercial casino that is majority-owned by the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians of Michigan saw a whopping 16.36 percent decline in revenues last month.

The drop at the Greektown Casino, which is currently in bankruptcy proceedings, marked the first time in a decade of gaming in Detroit that revenues have fallen, The Detroit News reported. Revenues were down at the two other commercial facilities, though they didn't see as big a hit as Greektown.

"It held out a long time it seems, but now we're seeing the effect of the economy," said Rick Kalm, the executive director for the Michigan Gaming Control Board, the paper reported.

Greektown is still working on a hotel that the tribe hopes will lead to a turnaround for the facility.
