Rep. Frank sponsors bill to lift ban on Internet gaming

Rep. Barney Frank (D-Massachusetts), the chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, says Americans should be able to gamble on the Internet.

"Most actions the government should stay out of," Frank said at a press conference, The New York Times reported.

Congress banned Internet gaming in September 2006 under a bill that the Bush administration tied to terrorism. The law contained some exceptions for tribal gaming and Frank's bill, H.R.2267, also contains tribal specific provisions.

Frank is among a group of lawmakers in the House who want the Department of Justice to investigate the treatment of the Freedmen of the Five Civilized Tribes.
