Casino foes don't want Seneca Nation to join case

printer friendly
Opponents of an off-reservation casino in Buffalo, New York, don't want the Seneca Nation to join as a intervenor-defendant.

Citizens Against Casino Gambling in Erie County and other groups sued the National Indian Gaming Commission for approving the Buffalo Creek Casino. They say the federal government can adequately represent the tribe's interests.

"It is inappropriate . . . to grant them full party status because the main issue in the case is what the NIGC did," attorney Cornelius D. Murray told The Buffalo News.

Judge William M. Skretny has not ruled on the tribe's motion to join the case.
