Mashantucket Tribe pays $2.9M in casino case

printer friendly
The Mashantucket Tribal Nation of Connecticut agreed to pay $2.9 million to a man who was injured at Foxwoods Resort Casino in November 2006.

Richard Murch, 68, was celebrating his 45th wedding anniversary at Foxwoods when he lost his leg in a vehicle accident involving a casino employee. He filed suit in tribal court and was prepared to go to trial on Thursday when a settlement was reached.

”I think the settlement was fair,” Murch told The New London Day. “I'm very happy with the result. I'm going to sit back now and relax - and go on with the rest of my life. … I've had a tough time.”

The settlement will be paid by the Mashantucket Pequot Gaming Enterprises and its insurance company.
