NIGC's Hogen refutes tribes on regulation push

printer friendly
National Indian Gaming Commission Chairman Phil Hogen says the agency isn't trying to rush new regulations without consulting tribes.

Hogen says the NIGC is only in the early stages of a regulation affecting Minimum Internal Controls Standards, or MICS. He says it will be months before a formal proposal is made.

"I am eagerly awaiting the president’s appointment of my replacement," Hogen, a member of the Oglala Sioux Tribe of South Dakota, told Gambling Compliance. "I sure hope I am long gone by the time these regulations ever become either proposed regulations or final regulations – and we are a long way from that."

The National Indian Gaming Association cited the regulation in calling on President Barack Obama to fire Hogen, who was appointed during the Bush administration.
