Mashantucket leader removed amid gaming crisis

printer friendly
The leader of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation of Connecticut has been placed on administrative leave, The New London Day reports.

Fellow council members said chairman Michael Thomas “betrayed our trust” by telling tribal members about the tribe's "dire financial times." Thomas said the tribe was seeking to renegotiate at least $1.45 billion in debt, mostly incurred from the operation and expansion of Foxwoods Resort Casino and MGM Grand at Foxwoods.

Council members gave Thomas until September 10 to leave office. He says he wasn't given proper notice about his suspension and is calling for a special tribal meeting on September 8.
