Mashantucket Tribe's tax at casino under review

printer friendly
Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal is reviewing a casino sales tax being imposed by the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation.

Blumenthal is concerned about a 1 percent tax the tribe is adding to the sale of merchandise at Foxwoods Resort Casino and MGM Grand at Foxwoods. The tribe's tax is an addition to the state's 6 percent tax.

”If we find that there is overcharging of the state or anyone else we will consider taking steps to recover the money,” Blumenthal told The New London Day.

The tribe plans to keep revenues from the tax if the merchandise is sold at a tribal-owned retail outlet. Otherwise the tribe will send 6 percent to the state.
