Chickasaw Nation plans $12M in racetrack work

The Chickasaw Nation plans to spend $12 million to make improvements to the Remington Park racetrack in Oklahoma.

The upgrades will be made over the next three to four years, a gaming executive said. "I think we would be looking at maybe $5 million to $8 million in the first year," John Elliott, the chief executive officer of Global Gaming, a tribal subsidiary, told The Oklahoman.

The tribe offered $80.25 million for the Oklahoma City track. "Because Remington Park is located in close proximity to other attractions, this area could become an even higher level regional or national tourist destination," Gov. Bill Anoatubby said, The Oklahoman reported.

The track's prior owner Magna Entertainment Corp. is in bankruptcy proceedings.
