County opposes Soboba Band land-into-trust

The board of supervisors in Riverside County, California, voted 4-0 to oppose a land-into-trust application for the Soboba Band of Luiseño Indians.

The board expressed concerns about traffic, public safety and the environment. Supervisors called the environmental impact statement for the casino inadequate.

The tribe wants to acquire 535 acres in trust. The existing Soboba Casino will be moved to the new site.

Tuesday was the deadline to submit comments on the EIS to the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
