Lawmaker urges rejection of Seminole compact

printer friendly
A key lawmaker is recommending the Florida Legislature reject a proposed Class III gaming compact with the Seminole Tribe.

Rep. Bill Galvano (R) said the state gives up too much in the deal. He wants non-Indian racetracks to be able to offer slot machines and compete with the tribe. "We don't have to give them anything," Galvano said of the Seminoles, The Sarasota Herald Tribune reported.

The tribe and Gov. Charlie Crist (R) reached the deal late last month in response to parameters set up by state Legislature.
