Racetracks in Texas welcome Chickasaw Nation

printer friendly
Racetrack owners in Texas believe the Chickasaw Nation of Oklahoma will lead the push to expand gaming in the Lone Star State.

In the past, the tribe spent money to lobby Texas lawmakers against slot machines and casinos. But with Global Gaming Solutions, a tribal subsidiary, set to purchase Lone Star Park, the landscape might change.

“The Chickasaw Nation has very successful casinos,” Jack Pratt, the chairman of the Texas Gaming Association, told The Houston Chronicle. “They certainly didn't buy this track just to run the ponies.”

Racetracks, tribes and other gaming interests were unsuccessful this year in their push to expand gaming.
