Court orders new trial in Pauma gaming case

An appeals court in California threw out a jury verdict and ordered a new trial in a case between the Pauma Band of Luiseño Indians and Harrah's Entertainment.

The tribe was negotiating a casino deal with Caesars Entertainment when Harrah's purchased Caesars. A jury found that Harrah's intentionally interfered with the deal but exonerated the company on other counts.

Both the tribe and Harrah's appealed. The 4th District Court of Appeal sided with the company but the tribe said it will continue to pursue the case.

“We are disappointed that we have not yet reached a final resolution to this matter,” Chairman Chris Devers told The San Diego Union-Tribune in a statement. “We are optimistic that the end result will be a fair and equitable resolution for our tribe.”
