Mohegan Tribe targets Massachusetts casino

printer friendly
The Mohegan Tribe isn't worried about losing business in Connecticut as it pursues a commercial gaming facility in Massachusetts.

The tribe wants to open a casino in Palmer, in the western part of Massachusetts. The plan depends on approval of commercial gaming by the Massachusetts Legislature.

"We’ve spent probably two years preparing for the process in terms of the site, accessibility, a resort product that fits on the destination," Jeffrey Hartmann, the chief operating officer at Mohegan Sun, told State House News Service.

Hartmann said a Massachusetts casino represents a "recapture opportunity" for the tribe. Palmer is about 60 miles from the reservation.
