Attorney's tribal client opposes online poker

Attorney Howard Dickstein and one of his tribal clients oppose legislation to authorize Internet poker games in California.

Dickstein said online poker games might violate tribal gaming compacts. He said tribes won't have to share revenues with the state if that happens.

One of Dickstein's clients, the United Auburn Indian Community agrees. A spokesperson said the compacts guarantee tribes exclusive rights to Class III games such as poker.

The Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation also opposes the proposal.

The Morongo Band of Mission Indians is proposing to authorize Internet poker games in conjunction with non-Indian card clubs.
