Extension to Menominee casino deal gains support

printer friendly
Leaders in the city of Kenosha, Wisconsin, are moving to renew an off-reservation casino deal with the Menominee Nation.

The tribe wants to convert the Dairyland Greyhound Park into a $1 billion casino. The Bush administration rejected the project earlier this year, saying the site was too far from the reservation.

The tribe needs an extension to the deal while it fights the decision in federal court. The tribe also hopes the Obama administration develops a policy that is more favorable to off-reservation gaming.

The extension would run 15 months. The current deal expires on December 31.
