The Nottawaseppi Huron Band of Potawatomi Indians will make its first casino payment to local governments in Michigan.

The tribe's compact calls for 2 percent of slot machine profits from FireKeepers Casino to be shared with the community. The payment was $1.9 million, double what was expected.

"We thought for a year, we would be presenting $2 million,” said Chairwoman Laura Spurr, The Battle Creek Enquirer reported. “This is five months.”

The casino opened last August.
