Mohegan Tribe expects to cut back on casino per capita payments

Friday, July 30, 2010

The Mohegan Tribe of Connecticut says it will likely reduce per capita payments to its members next year amid continuing declines in revenue and profit.

The tribe distributes a reported $90,000 to $120,000 a year to each of its members. This year's total payment is expected to reach $59 million.

But with profits in the last quarter down by 51 percent and revenues in a slump, next year's payments won't be as large. "I think I can safely say it will be less than the current year," Leo Chupaska, a gaming official, said on a conference call, The New London Day reported.

The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, also in Connecticut, has decided to eliminate per capita payments altogether.
