Jodi Rave Lee: Native presence can't be denied
Monday, August 2, 2004

"When presidential nominee John Kerry finally took center stage Thursday at the Democratic National Convention, a delegation of Native people was among the thousands of jubilant, sign-waving attendees.

And so Kerry spoke: "My fellow citizens, elections are about choices. And choices are about values. In the end, it's not just policies and programs that matter; the president who sits at that desk must be guided by principle."

Native people know well the importance of policies and programs that fail or succeed under each presidential administration. They also know what it's like when elected leaders fail to make decisions based on principle. "
