South Dakota GOP warns of possible irregularities

The South Dakota Republican Party is warning people who signed up for absentee ballots of possible irregularities.

A letter sent to 1,400 applicants cites a procedural error in their absentee ballot application. The party asks people to send in a copy of their photo identification to ensure they have a right to vote.

The letter is in response to a criminal probe involving the state GOP. Six people resigned in connection with alleged regularities in absentee ballot applications. The party says only a few people who signed up are affected.

Some Republicans and conservatives continue to say alleged voter fraud on reservations cost Republican John Thune the 2002 U.S. Senate election. Thune is currently running against Sen. Tom Daschle (D-South Dakota).
