Pine Ridge Election: Profile of Cecilia Fire Thunder
Thursday, October 21, 2004
KOTA Territory News is profiling both candidates for president of the Oglala Sioux Tribe of South Dakota. First up is Cecilia Fire Thunder.
Fire Thunder, a former nurse, would be the tribe's first woman president if elected. She calls herself a grass roots activist who brings people together.
”I have grass on my shoes. I've been here on this reservation since I came home and worked at the grass roots level and have taken things from ideas to completion,” she said.
Fire Thunder says she will work to resolve the tribe's financial situation. “Over and over, I've been told, get the finances, the financial situation, under control,” she said.
KOTA will profile rival candidate Russell Means in a second installment.
