Brazil's Indians face struggles over land, rights

About 1,200 athletes representing 40 tribes in Brazil competed in the Indigenous Peoples' Games VII last week.
The event highlighted the problems Indians in the country face after centuries of slavery, discrimination, neglect, disease and poverty. Participants said they were treated poorly and that the games were ignored by organizers and government officials.
Indian leaders say their biggest problems today include land and mineral rights. Traditional lands face encroachments by loggers, farmers, ranchers and miners.
