Bush administration to cut major HUD program

The Bush administration plans to cut the Department of Housing and Urban Development's $8 billion Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program by as much as 50 percent, The Washington Post reports.
The CDBG program supports economic development projects and is mainly used by states and local governments. But a portion of the funds are set aside for tribes. In the 2005 budget, Congress allocated $69 million for tribal governments.
The administration says the program is being cut because it has not been effective for HUD.
