Bush administration rolls out fiscal year 2006 budget

The Bush administration is announcing its fiscal year 2006 budget today.
The White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) will begin posting budget documents this morning at around 10am. They can be accessed at
www.whitehouse.gov/omb/budget/fy2006.
Interior Secretary Gale Norton will unveil her department's budget at 1pm. The Bureau of Indian Affairs will be cut by $100 million, the Associated Press reported, almost entirely in school construction. More details will be available at
www.doi.gov/budget.
New Health and Human Services Secretary Mike Leavitt will announce his budget at 1pm as well. A wide range of public health initiatives will be cut, The New York Times reported. See
www.hhs.gov for more.
All told, about 150 domestic programs will be reduced or eliminated. The $2.5 trillion budget emphasizes defense spending.
