School calls off Churchill's on-campus speech
Tuesday, February 8, 2005

The University of Colorado has canceled a speech by controversial professor Ward Churchill that was scheduled for tonight.

An official said the speech was canceled due to security reasons. Churchill has been at the center of controversy over the past week due to an essay he wrote that compared the victims of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks to Nazis.

Churchill has also been criticzed for criticized to be Indian. He says he is 3/16 Cherokee but is not enrolled in any tribe. Indian leaders, activists and reporters say he is a fraud who has used his alleged ancestry to further his career.
