Tragedy at Red Lake: New search delays school reopening

An update on the latest developments involving the March 21, 2005, fatal shootings on the Red Lake Reservation in Minnesota.
THE INVESTIGATION
The Red Lake High School was the subject of a search on
Thursday after the FBI received "uncorroborated intelligence"
of a gun on the premises, according to news reports.
The search went well into the night but no gun was found.
Tom Heffelfinger, the U.S. attorney for Minnesota, said there was
no indication that the gun, if it exists, was planted after the
shootings.
"What is important is that this information, which I will not discuss,
came up as part of our continuing investigation of the events of
March 21," Heffelfinger was quoted as saying.
"This is not based on some information that something might've
been introduced into the school after March 21. This is
part of what we are learning happened in that school on or
about that date."
Classes were set to resume on Monday, three weeks after the deadly
shootings that left eight dead at the high school campus in
addition to two more on the reservation.
A healing circle and open house were to be held today.
But the ceremony will instead occur on Monday and students
will be allowed inside to retrieve personal belongings.
There will be classes on Tuesday, but only for a half-day.
When the school reopens, armed officers from the
Bureau of Indian Affairs will be stationed temporarily
at the buildings. But since the school is a public school
and not in the BIA system, the tribe, or the state,
will have to find a way to hire a permanent security force.
