Si Tanka University files for bankruptcy in court
Wednesday, May 11, 2005

Si Tanka University in South Dakota filed for bankruptcy in federal court, listing only $330,000 in assets and $5.6 million in liabilities.

The bankruptcy filing reflects financial problems faced by the school's former Huron campus, located off the Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation. The campus was closed this spring due to lack of funding.

Si Tanka defaulted on $6.6 million worth of loans, faces a $2 million federal tax lien and has an 80-page list of people it owes money, according to the court papers.
