GOP activist won't testify at lobbying hearing
Tuesday, June 14, 2005

Grover Norquist, the Republican anti-tax activist, won't testify at the June 22 Senate Indian Affairs Committee hearing on the Jack Abramoff lobbying scandal, The Hill newspaper reports.

Norquist took money from Abramoff's wealthy tribal clients to fund his Americans for Tax Reform group. He also used his group to funnel $1.15 million in tribal donations to anti-gambing groups in Alabama.

Norquist has criticized Sen. John McCain (R-Arizona) for the investigation. He has refused to turn over documents to the committee, prompting a subpoena.

Norquist campaigned for President George W. Bush, who ran against McCain in the 2000 GOP primaries.
