IHS, SAMHSA host behavioral health conference

The Indian Health Service [Web Site] and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration [Web Site] are holding a behavioral health conference next week to address alcohol and drug abuse prevention and treatment in Indian Country.

The conference takes place June 28-30 in San Diego. It will bring together tribal, state and federal representatives to develop recommendations for prevention and treatment programs.

Dr. Charles Grim, the director of the IHS, and Charles Curie, the administrator of SAMHSA, will attend. Conference topics will include IHS and SAMHSA initiatives; traditional Native healing and medicine; successful programs in American Indian and Alaska Native communities; emerging treatment issues and challenges; and federal, state, and tribal collaborative efforts to address substance abuse issues.

The conference is being held at the Hyatt Regency Islandia Hotel and Marina.
