Editorial: Washington in worst lobbying scandal ever
Friday, June 24, 2005

"Washington is mesmerised by its worst lobbying scandal in decades as evidence emerges of political fixers taking millions from casino owners and funnelling the cash to themselves and friends in Congress.

Senators have expressed disbelief at details of the scheme. Democrat Byron Dorgan described himself shocked by what he called 'deceptions and greed that even by Washington standards are breathtaking'.

According to a Senate inquiry, the 'superlobbyist' at the centre of the scandal, a former Hollywood movie producer, Jack Abramoff, and his ally Michael Scanlon, took more than $66 million (£36 million) from casino-owning Indian tribes."
