Republican lobbyists fighting for, against tribes

A high-powered Republican law firm with ties to the White House has been lobbying for and against Connecticut tribes.

Barbour Griffith & Rogers [Web Site] has been hired by Town Action to Save Kent (TASK) to fight the Schaghticoke Tribal Nation. Handling the case is the firm's vice president, Bradley Blakeman [Biography], who worked for the Bush-Cheney campaign and for the Bush White House.

The firm also represented a faction of the Eastern Pequot Tribal Nation. The tribe, like the Schaghticokes, is opposed by local residents.

Barbour Griffith & Rogers has been nearly $1 million since 2001 to lobby for tribes and casino developers, according to The Hartford Courant.
