Last Coushatta ally of Abramoff resigns from council

William Worfel, the last former ally of disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff, resigned from the council of the Coushatta Tribe of Louisiana.

Worfel and his former allies on the council hired Abramoff as their lobbyist. They reportedly spent $32 million on his services, using money meant for tribal health, education and other services.

A new set of leaders was elected after the scandal broke. Worfel remained on the council but said he resigned because the new leaders were harassing and threatening him and his family. He criticized the leadership for firing several top executives.
