Mankiller tells students to keep positive outlook
Thursday, September 15, 2005

Wilma Mankiller, the first woman to be elected principal chief of the Cherokee Nation, spoke to students at Western Kentucky University on Wednesday night.

Mankiller told students it was important to maintain a positive outlook. "I learned a lot from the people around me," she said, The College Heights Herald reported. "(Other's) actions generally follow thoughts, and negative thoughts tend to manifest themselves through negative actions."

Mankiller said the job of a leader is to keep a positive outlook in order to inspire other people to succeed. She said something positive can be learned from every situation.
