Sen. Reid to vote against Roberts nomination

Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nevada) said on Tuesday that he will vote against the nomination of John G. Roberts Jr. as chief justice of the United States.

Reid said he couldn't trust Roberts to be committed to civil right and women's rights. He said Roberts failed to answer important questions during last week's confirmation hearings.

Despite his stance, Reid said Roberts will be confirmed to the U.S. Supreme Court and will get votes from many Democrats.

A Senate Judiciary Committee vote is expected this week with debate occurring on the Senate floor next week. Roberts is expected to be seated in time for the start of the Supreme Court's term on October 3, when an Indian tax case will be heard.
