Mark Trahant: No one wants to talk about immigration

"Every weekday the Seattle Post-Intelligencer's Editorial Board meets to discuss issues in the news. Our conversations jump from subject to subject as varied as the headlines before us. We talk, debate and find consensus (then we write about it).

Except when the subject is immigration policy. Then a short conversation is started -- and dropped. We know we have differences, deep ones at that. So we put off the discussion -- and any conclusion -- for another day.

That's exactly how the country deals with immigration issues. From time to time the issue surfaces, deep political divisions are exposed and resolution waits for another day."
